When 8th graders came back from winter break, they started work on the Middle School’s first ever dragster project. The project lasted about three weeks, from designing the dragsters to working in the Catalyst Hub, and culminated in exciting races in the Oglesby Room. The students were required to document each step in the build process with pictures, and Westminster Paw Prints has a collection for you to enjoy.
Race results and videos:
In the first semifinal, Joyce Feng (from Ms. Healan’s 1st period) beat Lauren Love (from Ms. Roberts’ 3rd period), with Joyce’s time at 0.784 seconds and Lauren’s dragster running off the track.
In the second semifinal, Robbie Gohde (from Dr. Aitken’s 3rd period) beat Dylan Perez (from Mr. Williams’ 3rd period), with Robbie’s time at 0.649 seconds and Dylan’s time at 0.795 seconds.
In the final race, Robbie Gohde beat Joyce Feng to capture first place, with Robbie’s time at 0.665 seconds and Joyce’s time at 0.821 seconds.
Update on 2/13/2026: Lauren Love raced her dragster again. Her time of 0.687 seconds allowed her to beat Joyce in the replacement semifinal. However, her dragster ended up running off of the track again in the replacement final race, meaning Robbie could keep the top spot.
