It’s been an exciting and unforgettable season for the Middle School golf team. From the very first practice to the final match, the players showed incredible dedication and enthusiasm. Players who had struggled at the start were now hitting impressive shots, and some even broke their personal records, posting their best scores yet. The boys’ team even won the championship for the first time.
The season started off with a group of athletes who were eager to learn, with many of them completely new to the sport. Some had never held a golf club before, while others had just a little bit of experience.
At first, there were a lot of challenges. Golf can be tricky to learn, with all the different skills and techniques to master, like swinging, putting, and reading the greens. Some players struggled to get the ball in the hole, while others were still working on controlling their shots. However, as the weeks passed, the team started to make some real progress.
Golf coach Alan Goodrow says the team featured a lot of new players this year, who contributed a lot to their success. “We had a handful of seventh graders who couldn’t play last year, who brought a lot to the team,” he says. “We had some new eighth graders who played football in the past, but gave up football and are turning their attention to golf now . . . and we had some returning players who went through all this last year and came back as eighth graders, second year, and as improved players.”
7th grader Sophie Shih agrees with Goodrow about the significant improvement of the team this year. “We got to some higher tournaments than we usually do,” she says. “This year we had a lot of strong players so we got a lot from them . . . my favorite part was definitely playing at all the different tournaments.”
While they faced some tough matches and challenges, they learned a lot along the way and are already looking forward to next year. They’ve gained valuable experience, and now they know what it takes to improve and succeed. They’re excited to keep building on the foundation they’ve created this year, and they can’t wait to see how much they will grow in the seasons to come.
