Westminster’s newest PE teacher, Jake Robertson, has made his mark both in the gym and on the football field as the varsity team’s defensive coordinator. He brings eight years of high school football coaching experience to his new role teaching middle schoolers.
So far Robertson loves the school. Even though he had known about Westminster for a long time, he was impressed on his first tour of the school and found the entire campus very nice. “I was blown away walking around campus. It’s very impressive, and the history of the school was very attractive to me.” The only downside is having to walk everywhere because the campus is so big.
Robertson coached football for two years at Kennesaw then for eight years at Fellowship Christian, where he was also a weight room coach. “The biggest change from my past job is I was coaching high school students and just in the weight room. So now transitioning to middle school students and teaching a variety of PE subjects has been a fun challenge.”
Over the summer, Robertson started coaching at Westminster with the football team. Feeling behind, he quickly met the players and coaches, who welcomed him warmly. He aimed to show the team that football’s hard work leads to fun. He loves to coach defense. “There is nothing better than having 11 guys swarm around the field, playing together for the common goal of taking the ball away” he says.
His favorite moment of the season was the game against Pace because they had a strip sack to secure the win for the Wildcats. This past football season, the team had its ups and downs, but he still enjoyed every part of it. “During the games I have a mindset that football is hard, but when you attack the work it is a lot of fun.”
